About the EPA

Legislation

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administers the key Queensland legislation of the Environmental Protection Act 1994, the Nature Conservation Act 1992, the Marine Parks Act 2004, the Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995 and the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. Legislation administered by the EPA as at 27 August 2007 is set out below.

Enforcement guidelines outlining the Agency's enforcement philosophy have been developed.

Most Queensland legislation is available online. Electronic versions are not official versions. Authorised printed versions can be obtained from the Queensland Government Printer GOPRINT.

The Premier determines portfolio responsibilities; the Governor in Council then approves the Administrative Arrangements Order that sets out which Minister is responsible for administering Queensland’s Acts. The Administrative Arrangements are updated on a regular basis to reflect the passage and repeal of legislation and approval by the Premier of changes in Ministerial responsibilities or the administration of Acts.
